Welcome to our study of the history of the world!
Welcome on board as we traverse deserts, rain forests, plateaus, savannahs, islands and mountain chains looking for evidence of what happened in the past and what it means! Get ready to investigate artifacts and primary documents, to analyze patterns, to look for turning points in history, and to discuss BIG questions about history. We'll also compare and contrast political systems, cultures, and forms of subsistence and trade. Finally, get ready to study how humans, over the course of history, have interacted with their natural environment. We'll step into the past and let it inform our future!
The study of history is at once an objective and subjective pursuit. We try to look at events objectively, focus on the facts, obtain as much information as possible. Yet, even the sources of that information must be questioned. There's no ONE history; those involved in the events all had different priorities, perspectives, and experiences; those who retell history have the same. So as we study artifacts and documents and other historical matter, we must do so with keen eyes and questioning minds. We must not just recognize others' biases, but our own, too! Welcome to this year's study of AP World History!
